content & communications officer

  • You must be all of the following:

    • Starting a year-in-industry or placement year in September 2025

    • Attending university in England

    • Studying a course in a relevant subject

    • Live in or can commute regularly to London

    • Aged 18-25

  • This role is unpaid, but falls within a funding exemption that allows you to claim your full maintenance loan. It will be up to your university to confirm that you’re exempt from a reduced loan and support your SFE application, but we’re happy to provide any evidence you need.

  • This role is full-time and will mostly be remote, but as part of this role you’ll also be attending in-person sessions with young people, and doing in-person outreach work. We don’t expect you to commit more than 3 days a week, but you may need to attend a session or event any day of the week (excluding sundays).

This voluntary student placement is open to London-based university students. You’ll be working with young people facing disadvantage and helping to visualise and promote their vision of a fairer future. You may still be eligible for a full maintenance loan or DSA support during this placement.

About the role

This role is all about creative communication and programme delivery. You’ll help shape how EG tells our story — especially through Project 9.0, our campaign to end child homelessness in London. You’ll also support the development of Unscrambled, our youth-led media strand, and the Unscrambled Young Journalists (UYJ), who will play a role in documenting and reporting on issues facing young people in our communities.

You’ll create content, help run activities and events, and work closely with young people involved in Project 9.0 — making sure their voices are heard and their work is seen.

You’ll be part of our 2025/26 student placement team, working alongside two other students to grow EG’s impact, visibility, and youth-led programmes.

    • Producing and managing content for EG and Project 9.0 (social media, website, print, visual media)

    • Supporting the development of Unscrambled and helping launch the first UYJ cohort

    • Documenting the work of the Youth Advisory Group, Ambassadors, and young people involved in Project 9.0

    • Helping deliver workshops and outreach activities across London

    • Supporting the creation of campaign materials, visual assets, and creative resources

    • Ensuring everything we create is accessible, inclusive, and youth-friendly

    • Experience managing real creative and communications work with social impact

    • The chance to support the first phase of a new youth journalism programme

    • A growing portfolio of content and campaign materials

    • Skills in design, storytelling, facilitation, and content strategy

    • Mentoring, training, and strong references from a youth-led organisation

    • A creative and flexible environment where you’ll be trusted to lead and try new ideas

  • We’re looking for someone who:

    • Is confident creating digital content (design, writing, photography, video, or all of the above)

    • Understands the power of storytelling in campaigns and youth work

    • Wants to help young people share their experiences and influence change

    • Is organised, reliable, and enjoys working both creatively and collaboratively

    • Is committed to youth voice, inclusion, and community impact

    • Have experience with tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or InDesign

    • Have worked on journalism, media, or creative projects before

    • Have helped deliver or promote events, workshops, or campaigns

    • Are passionate about communications, youth media, or the creative industries

  • Please fill out the short form below as best you can – we don’t mind spelling mistakes, but please don’t use AI to write your answers. After the deadline, we’ll review applications and invite shortlisted candidates to an informal interview. If you're offered the role, we’ll provide all the information you need, check your right to work, and carry out a DBS check, as the role involves working with young people.
