When school’s out, fun’s out.
Lets go sports mode.
What is sports mode, and why do we exist?
Sports Mode is a youth-led platform unlocking access to sport by partnering with schools, colleges, parks, and community spaces to open up their facilities outside of school hours. We want to create free or low-cost sessions so young people can get active in their local area, especially those who lose access to PE after Year 11 or face barriers like cost or distance.
We exist because too many young people are cut off from sport when it should be part of everyday life. Whether it’s unused pitches or closed-off halls, our mission is to turn those spaces into active, welcoming places where movement, play, and community can thrive — no matter your background.
get involved.

Could you be a venue host?
Have a school, hall, or sports space sitting empty after hours? Open it up for young people in your area through Sports Mode. We’ll handle the bookings, support logistics, and bring your space to life with free or low-cost sessions for the community.
-
Become a young sports leader
Are you aged 16-19? Got a passion for getting people moving? Run sports sessions in your local area and gain a Level 3 qualification. We’ll give you a free branded training kit and help you create fun, inclusive spaces where young people can get active.
-
Join our Youth Steering Group
Help shape the future of Sports Mode. As a Youth Steering Group member, you’ll make decisions, give feedback, and represent the voices of young people across London. It’s your chance to lead change and make sure sport stays youth-led and accessible.
Are you aged 11-19?
Join our youth Steering group
Interested in helping shape a new youth-led sports platform? We’re building Sports Mode to make getting active more welcoming, fun, and affordable, and the Youth Steering Group will help guide how we do that, from the vibe of sessions to how the app feels and works. You don’t need to be “sporty” to get involved. If you’ve got ideas or care about making sport better for young people, we want to hear from you!
-
To join the Youth Steering Group, you should:
Be aged 11–19
Live in Greenwich or a neighbouring borough
Be able to attend Friday after-school sessions (some online, some in-person)
Be open to sharing ideas and listening to others
You do not need to be sporty or have experience.
If you care about making sport feel easier, more welcoming, or more fun for young people, you’re the kind of person we’re looking for.
-
You’ll help shape how Sports Mode grows by:
Sharing ideas about what sessions should actually look and feel like
Giving feedback on venues, session times, and accessibility
Talking through how to make sessions welcoming for everyone (not just sporty people)
Looking at early designs of the app and giving thoughts on layout, features, and vibe
Helping test ideas and trying out small activities to see what works in real life
Some meetings will be online and others in-person; travel and food will be covered.
-
This is a real role with real input – your voice won’t just be heard, it will be used. You’ll get to:
Have your travel and food covered at in-person meetings
Shape something new while it’s being built
Build confidence, leadership experience, teamwork and communication skills
Meet new people and be part of a youth-led project from the start
Have your ideas will directly influence how Sports Mode launches and grows
-
Click the button below to apply. Once you’ve submitted your form, we’ll review all applications and get back to everyone from 19 November.
If you’re selected, your first session will be on 21 November, and we’ll send you all the details (time, location, what to expect) closer to the day.
Sports Mode is proud to be part of Go! London.
In the third cohort of the Go! London Young Entrepreneurs Programme, delivered by the School for Social Entrepreneurs, we will join other participants to support thousands of young Londoners through physical activity and sport!
From improving the physical and mental wellbeing of young people, to developing vital employability skills, we know the transformative power of physical activity and sport.
With support from the Go! London Partnership – made up of the Mayor of London, Sport England and London Marathon Foundation, with London Marathon Events and London Sport – we can establish our work to open up local spaces, particularly schools, to create new opportunities for young people to get active, lead sessions, and connect with their communities through sport.
By investing nearly £20m into the capital over the next few years, the Go! London Fund is the biggest ever community sports fund in the capital. The Go! London priorities are targeted towards helping underserved children and young Londoners aged 4–24 to:
improve their wellbeing (physical and mental);
improve their employability skills;
better connect them to their communities;
improve their safety;
reduce their loneliness; and
create positive experiences of being physically active.
